Selecting the right solution for home care services is an important process.

Inviting care services into your home for the first time or deciding to move into an alternate environment for care can be emotionally, physically, and financially taxing. It’s important to understand the pros and cons of each option, as well as your ability to afford the home care you need and desire over time. If your loved one needs assistance with any of these activities, in-home care may be the solution for you.
Step 1: Locate a qualified, quality company. Ask for the agency’s Health Care Organization (HCO) license number and verify it is in good standing by visiting the Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD) website under supervision of the Department of Social Services. secure.dss.ca.gov/CareFacilitySearch
Step 2: Create a list of activities that you need or want help in performing and the time of day assistance would be the most helpful.
Step 3: Evaluate your monthly budget for care prior to meeting with an agency representative.
Step 4: Enlist the expertise of a Life Care Manager to help you determine the optimal plan for home care, given your specific needs, desires, and budget. If you are unable to afford the amount of in-home care support you need to be safe and thrive, they will educate you regarding alternative living options and available community resources.
Step 5: Find the right fit with a caregiver. Experienced Keen Life Care Managers have found that if you have not developed some level of trust, rapport, and routine with a caregiver within the first three to five days, you probably aren’t working with the one who’s right for you.
